Thomastown Lutheran Church
The little stone church on the hill at Thomastown was opened in November 1856. It is built from stones cut by hand in the quarry adjacent to the church.
We are a small but dedicated group.
We are a small but dedicated group who worship on the fourth Sunday of the month at 2.30pm. Services include Holy Communion, and hymns are played on the reed organ.
We love for people to join us for worship. Visitors who are just passing through as part of a tour of the Pioneer Precinct or catching up on their family history regularly drop in. The Pioneer Precinct, which is administered by the Whittlesea Council, is open for tours on the second Sunday of the month, and we often find ourselves part of the living history of the area as we worship.
Each year we gather in the cemetery at dawn on Easter Sunday for the Easter Vigil before walking to the church for Holy Communion and to complete our Easter festivities. This is a highlight of the church year.
If you are planning on visiting, please be aware that this heritage-listed building has no electricity, gas or water (or toilet facilities), so come prepared!
Perhaps we will meet you there!
Thomastown Cemetery
The pioneer cemetery on the corner of Gardenia Road and German Lane is administered by the Thomastown Lutheran Church. The cemetery is for use by members of the parish and descendants of the original families who settled and established the church. Please contact us for inquiries.
